Cover Reveal for Firebird (A Survivor Series Novel) By Deborah Leigh!!

Firebird (A Survivor Series Novel)
Deborah Leigh
Dark contemporary romance with a HEA
Release Date: 4th of January 2017

Blurb: When the worst thing imaginable happens to Mary Dougal, her physical body might have survived but her soul feels like it has died. Now the only thing getting her up every morning is the thought of revenge. Making her attackers pay will be the final act in her life. Feeling like half a man after a tragic accident, former soldier Cain “Ace” Turner has given up on even the idea of love. He’s focused on building his construction business and trying to leave his painful past behind him. With his family’s support and sometimes unwelcome meddling, he tries to just live one day at a time. Of course love doesn’t give up that easily, and it just might be the only thing to save them both. When these two meet and get surprised by possibilities, can they prove together that love truly conquers all?

Cain gently squeezes my hand and I smile at him. James says our parents are on the patio and I lead Cain there. My dad’s eyes almost bulge out of his head when he sees Cain, then get impossibly bigger as he spots our entwined hands. My mom, thankfully, gives his ribs a good pounding with her elbow. That seems to get him out of the moment of shock and he wipes his hands on his apron that says “Kiss the Cook” so he can come and shake Cain’s hand. My mom looks as if she’s about to explode any second as she gently and quickly hugs me. “Dad, Mom, this is Cain, my contractor for the new house and, well, my date,” I say. My dad shakes his hand vigorously and even brings him in for one of those awkward man hugs. I can see Cain is taken aback. Then my mom attacks him with a huge bear hug. She wipes away a tear, trying not to let me notice, but I do. I hope Cain doesn’t feel more pressure now. I want him to be able to walk away without feeling guilty if he needs to. My mom leads us to the table and he holds out his hand to me again. I take it without hesitation and even feel a little rush. I feel some heat in my cheeks at that and he gives me a puzzled look. I lean over and whisper in his ear, “I didn’t expect to enjoy holding hands again, but this is really nice.” He smiles at me before focusing on my mom again. She hasn’t stopped talking yet—everything from her garden to the building industry. I want to tell her she’s babbling, but I leave her to her fun. James comes out and brings Cain a beer. He offers me a glass of wine and I refuse. I get up and go get myself a soda. I open it myself and pour it. I don’t take my eyes off it the whole time.

Genre: Romance

Blurb: Can forbidden love blossom amid the constraints of war?
The moment the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, life shifted for Miko Nishimura. Desperate to reach the Portland Assembly Center for Japanese Americans, she’s kicked off the bus miles from town. Every tick of the clock pushes her closer to becoming a fugitive in the land of her birth. Exhausted, she stumbles to her grandparents’ abandoned farm only to find a dying soldier sprawled across the step. Unable to leave him, she forsakes all else to keep him alive.
After crashing his plane in the Battle of the Atlantic, the doctors condemn Captain Rock Laroux to die. Determined to meet his maker beneath a blue sky at his family home, he sneaks out of the hospital. Weary and half out of his mind, he makes it as far as a produce stand he remembers from his youth. Rather than surrender to death, Rock fights a battle of the heart as he falls in love with the beautiful Japanese woman who saves his life.
A poignant, sweet romance, Garden of Her Heart proves love can bloom in unlikely places even under the most challenging circumstances.

USA Today Bestselling Author Shanna Hatfield joins us with her latest release, a sweet World War II romance.
Thank you so much for hosting me today. It's such a pleasure to be here with you! I thought you and your readers might like to meet one of the characters from the story, a rascally boy named Petey.
Welcome, Petey. Thank you for joining us today.
Petey: Golly! Thanks for letting me visit!
You live on the farm next to Miko's grandparents' farm. What do you think of her?
Petey: Miko’s the limit, and I mean The Limit. You can capitalize that and take it to the bank, but she’s as good an egg as ever was laid. If anyone tells you different, it’s applesauce with a side of baloney.
You had some excitement at your house recently. How do you like your brand-new baby sister?
Petey: If Mom and Pop had to drag home a crying, pooping machine, I sure wish it would’ve been a boy. It looks like we're stuck with Alice Marie, though. Why, you'd think she came from the royal palace the way Granny carries on. I suppose, though, for a baby, the Princess ain't all bad.
Have you met the soldier Miko's been helping?
Petey: Sure, I've met the captain. He's a real crackerjack. Cap plays cowboys and Indians with me, and he knows how to do all kinds of things. Did you know he got injured in the war? Boom! (Slaps hands together loudly) His plane got shot down and he crashed and everything. He's a real, honest-to-goodness hero!
That's quite impressive.
Petey: I'll tell it to the world, he's the cat's pajamas. (Petey sighs) But I think he's got his eye on Miko. I planned to marry her when I grew up big enough but he might just beat me to it. I reckon if someone else gets to marry her, he's the best man for the job.
Do you have anything else you'd like to share with our readers today, Petey?
Petey: Just to remind folks to read Miko and Rock's story. You'll find out how I get to be a big hero if you do!
Thank you for joining us, Petey, and Shanna.
Shanna: Thank you, again for hosting us!

“I thought I heard you calling for me,” Miko said, climbing down a ladder on the far end of the building with an arm full of berry crates.
Rock rushed to help her. By the time he threaded his way through the packed contents of the building, she was already on the floor.
“That’s quite a car,” he said, taking half the berry crates from her and motioning to the convertible.
“Thanks. I bought it when I was still gainfully employed,” she said, walking over to the car. “I fell in love with the color the first time I saw it and started saving my money to buy one. When the weather’s nice, it’s fun to drive with the top down.”
Rock gaped at her. “It’s your car?”
Miko grinned. “Is that a hint of disbelief I hear, Captain? Not only is it my car, but I know how to change the tires, check the oil, and siphon gas out of my dad’s car when my brother, Tommy, borrows it and brings it back empty.”
He laughed, setting down the crates and wiping his hands along his trousers before touching the car. “It is a beaut. What’s this color?”
“Laguna maroon. Papa calls it the luna moon mobile, but I still think it’s one of the prettiest colors out there.” Miko opened the driver’s side door and motioned for Rock to climb in.
He sank into the leather seat and inhaled the aroma as if it was the most expensive perfume.
“Like it?” Miko asked, bending down to better see his reaction to the car.
“You bet!” He settled his hands on the steering wheel, forcing his injured fingers to curl around the wheel.
“If you like the outside of the car, you’ll probably be more impressed by the eight cylinders under the hood.” Miko released the hood latch and Rock slid out to study the engine.
He whistled and smirked at Miko. “What’s a girl like you doing with a car like this?”
“Anything I want,” she said with a sassy grin. “At least it used to be that way.”
Rock sobered and closed the hood, using the hem of his T-shirt to wipe away the smudges made by his fingerprints.
“I didn’t realize you had cars here. I was trying to figure out how to catch a ride on the bus into Portland.”
“By all means, drive one of the cars wherever you need to go.” She pointed to her grandparents’ sedan. “Papa and Mother must have sold their car or it would be here, too. Granddad wouldn’t care if you take his.” She cast a taunting look his way. “Or, if you think you can handle it, you’re welcome to drive mine.”
His raised an eyebrow at her dare as he lifted the berry baskets and followed her out the door. “Is that an invitation or a challenge?”
“Maybe both.” She turned and sauntered away, casting a flirty smile at him over her shoulder.
